Laryngectomy.net aims to explain the Therapeutic Education Program for Laryngectomees and Caregivers Quality of life, called PETAL

The illness diagnosis

Meeting for the choice of treatment

Once all the results have been obtained (result of the examination under anaesthesia, specimens and CT-scan), a team including about ten physicians, of different specialities, will meet to choose which treatment suits you best.
They will examine all your results. If the cancer is confirmed, they will choose among several treatments:

  • surgery
  • radiation therapies (X-rays) with chemotherapy
  • chemotherapy on its own

If surgery by total laryngectomy is chosen for you, it means that you and your cancer fulfil several conditions:

  • the cancer affects the larynx or is around the larynx
  • the cancer has not spread to other organs (the lungs are healthy)
  • you are fit to undergo this surgery

This announcement may be shocking for you and your family, but if total laryngectomy is proposed to you, it is very likely that you may be cured of your cancer.
