The illness diagnosis

Examination under general anaesthesia

If during the consultation with the ear-nose-throat specialist, a cancer is suspected, an examination under general anaesthesia in the operating room will be scheduled. This examination is called a poly-endoscopy or endoscopic assessment.

There are several objectives:

  • See the cancer clearly, its size and its extent, to be able to choose the best treatment.
  • Take specimens to confirm that it is actually cancer. The results are obtained within a period of 2 weeks.

In practice:

The examination will be scheduled at a near date

You will be taken to the operating room

You will be put to sleep

Specimens will be taken while you are asleep

And you will go home
